Dawn Bello - Visionary
Dawn has had a passion for the outdoors since her first family camping trip at the age of five. She was a cross country and marathon runner for many years and an Olympic hopeful in Nordic skiing during her college years. She is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast and has taught rock climbing, rappelling, gravel biking, kayak touring, white water rafting, canoeing, backpacking, land navigation and more. The founder of the Outdoor Wilderness & Leadership School, Dawn received certification as a Wilderness First Responder and NASAR technician, she's trained hundreds of others in wilderness first aid, search and rescue and survival. Dawn is also an animal lover and has trained Search and Rescue (air scent) dogs as well as hunting and livestock guardian dogs. She owned a sheep and goat ranch for several years where she raised and trained trail and roping horses. Always up for athletic challenges, Dawn attained the status of "Go Ruck Tough" at the age of 54, the same year she won her last of several bodybuilding titles, NPC Masters Figure Champion. Dawn continues to be a staunch supporter of conservation and wildlife protection. It is her love for the outdoors and all things wild that permeates her planning, teaching and training in the fulfillment of her life's purpose - to ignite that same passion in others and leave a legacy that lasts for generations to come.

Professional Background
Dawn brings over 25 years of experience in innovative program planning and management, as well as educational, interpretive and outreach program development and implementation to the natural and cultural resource management industry. She has over 16 years of experience in partner development, community collaboration and liaison with stakeholders and influencers including local and state representatives. She has worked on Capitol Hill interfacing with think tanks, lobby groups, high-ranking military personnel, statesmen and other dignitaries. She's served on several inaugural teams for significant projects such as the Houston Wilderness inter-agency ecotourism effort and the Texas Parks and Wildlife statewide interpretive initiative. She has designed and facilitated professional development courses for teachers and industry professionals to include workshops and presentations at professional conferences of organizations such as the National Recreation and Parks Association, Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and Texas Recreation and Parks Society.

Community Partnerships
Program Manager
Texas Parks and Wildlife
Manage the community partnership program statewide, with the goal of furthering the agency’s mission by maximizing community involvement. Gain support of community leaders, identify and foster partnerships, engage stakeholders and leverage grant program to disseminate and imbed programming that supports the agency’s messaging and mission.

Master Planner
Texas Parks and Wildlife
In response to an initiative set by the Board of Commissioners, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was tasked with revising its public image while more accurately realigning its tactical approach to better suit the changing demographics of the state. This called for a comprehensive, strategic plan that would pull in funders, stakeholders, partners, contractors and oversight committees. It also called for the recruitment of a highly skilled team to plan, develop, implement and gain internal and external support for the intended changes. This team, affectionately referred to as “The Magnificent Seven” changed the face of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the public eye. It was composed of hand selected recruits from around the globe, one of which was me.

Tasked with managing the community partnership, training and education program for southeast Texas, encompassing Houston, Galveston and Beaumont. In addition, collaborate with partners throughout the entire state in order to establish and develop partnerships with government agencies and NGO's, non-profit and educational organizations, community, special interest, religious and other groups with an emphasis on underserved, urban and at-risk populations.

In this role, I served on a team of counselors, instructors and advisors who employed alternative education methods and counseling skills to help adjudicated youth mainstream back into society.
